Forty years ago when families talked about technology in the home they were really only referring to a single device — the television set. But nowadays the modern home is replete with technological devices, gadgets and appliances in nearly every room in the house.
Most kitchens have a microwave a programmable dishwasher, refrigerator and a coffee/espresso maker. In the family room, there is no longer a simple standalone set, but rather a big screen wall-mounted plasma or LCD TV. And the accessories that can be connected to these sets, such as state of the art sound systems, DVD or Blu-Ray Players or DVRs, have transformed how television is watched in the modern age.
However, there is a tradeoff with all of this technology. Simply put, installing a new home theatre or purchasing the most modern appliances for the kitchen is extremely expensive. For instance, the average cost of a fully equipped home theatre is more than three thousand pounds. This often means that homeowners must choose between new technology and making basic home improvements, like remodelling the bathrooms or putting in shutters uk .
Now, we are not saying that the modern family should eschew technology and live as Luddites. But it seems to us that the amount of money most homeowners spend on certain technologies, such as entertainment, can be a bit excessive.
On the other hand, many technologies that are used in the home, like the computer, the internet or the microwave are quite useful and are probably worth every penny. These devices not only save homeowners' time, but they also make them more efficient both at home and work.
