Welcome to the Connected Home

Technology Keeps us in the Warm Again

We seem to be living in an age where it is becoming less important for us to have to venture outside the home to buy practically anything we want or need. Our food and general provisions can be ordered either online or by telephone and then delivered straight to our door. In theory we could eat and drink all year round without ever having to visit a shop! All sorts of electronic equipment, furniture, games, even telephones themselves can be bought online. In fact, anything you want is now available at the click of a button. Modern electronic technology seems to have taken us full circle back to the days when all the tradesmen delivered to our homes.

There was a golden age when the dairyman delivered milk on a daily basis; the baker, fresh bread; and the Corona man, fizzy pop. The coal man delivered his anthracite and the rag and bone man came for things you wanted to give away and to sharpen your knives. All of these services seemed to dry up with the advent of the supermarkets and the ubiquitous car. But as we get slicker and marketing departments try to become more service orientated, then technology starts to kick in and opens up new opportunities. Huge great organisations like Amazon and EBay have come into the home delivery market, as have the supermarkets themselves.

It is even possible now, when going on holiday, to buy your foreign currency online and have it delivered to your home by courier directly to you. It is best to check holiday money rates online first and then visit one of the many suppliers of travel facilities so they can take your order, either directly over the internet, or by telephone.

Technology is the mountain that seems to have an increasingly high summit. Whilst man has imagination, he will develop technology to satisfy his desires and endeavour to make himself ever more comfortable in his home.
