Should You Jettison Your Landline?
In the midst of an economic recession, more and more UK households are looking for fast and effective ways to reduce their monthly bills. Whether we are talking about renting out a spare room or buying used cars instead of new ones, most folks are willing to try anything. In this article we are going to discuss something that would have been all but unthinkable only a few years ago-getting rid of your landline service.
According to the most recent numbers, more than five per cent of UK residents rely exclusively on their mobiles for telephone service. This number has been steadily increasing as mobile phone technology has become more affordable and reliable.
Of course, when you think about it, it makes perfect sense. After all, most families these days not only pay for their landline service, but also for mobile family plans. As you might expect, this can add up to hundreds of pounds a month. And while most people rely on mobiles when they are out of the house, they can also obviously use them when they are at home. This makes a landline service rather redundant.
So, why should you own a landline? The truth is that since mobile phones became a reliable technology there are not many good reasons to continue to pay exorbitant monthly fees. The only real difference is that mobile phones require users to be more responsible. What do we mean? Well, unlike a standard phone, a mobile phone or headset runs on rechargeable batteries. So, if you forget to connect it to the charger, it is possible that the phone will run low on juice and that it will not be available in an emergency situation. Can you imagine trying to call 911 only to find that your mobile headset is dead? This is the primarily reason why most home still rely on landlines rather than mobile phones.
