Energy Efficient Window Blinds for the Home
When families move into a new home, there are often hundreds, even thousands of things that must be done. First you must put every piece of furniture in place, lay the carpet and attend to the appliances. But one often overlooked accessory is window blinds. Obviously, they are not just an accessory. We use that word facetiously to denote how little thought often goes into selecting the right window treatments.
Of course, most folks choose jaloezieen because they perform an important function, i.e., they keep the sun out of your eyes and they also give homeowners some much needed privacy. But did you know that window blinds can also save you quite a bit of money?
Right now you are likely scratching or shaking your head in disbelief, but it is true. The right window treatment can actually make your home more energy efficient. How do they do this? The explanation is simple: window blinds block out the sun (heat) during the summer and keep the warm air in during the winter.
Believe it or not, you can save up to twenty per cent on your heating bills and almost as much on your air conditioning costs in the summer simply by installing the right window blinds. And if you have large windows, it is doubly important that you find the right window treatments.
What should you buy? While aesthetics will always be the primary concern, when it comes to saving money on your energy bills, the thicker the material in your window treatments, the more savings you will see. For homeowners who are not fans of thick fabrics in their window blinds, you can always alternate between the large and small windows. That is, install window treatments with thicker fabrics on the larger windows and thinner ones on the smaller panes.
