Jas Saini, Chairman SVP Alliance & VP Consumer Devices, NDS

Dr Jas Saini is Vice-President for Consumer Devices for NDS Ltd. In this role he is responsible for co-ordinating the company strategy and establishing strategic alliances in relation to consumer devices necessary to provide end-to-end solutions.

He also established and manages the NDS R&D facility in Bangalore, India.

In addition, he is the chairman of the SVP alliance -  a group of media and technology industry leaders committed to the widespread use of digital content on consumer devices.

Dr Saini has over 15 years experience in the field of digital products and over 25 years in the electronics industry. After leaving University, Dr Saini started his career with Sinclair Research Ltd in Winchester designing communication devices. Following that, he held increasingly senior positions at Thomson Multimedia, France. He was responsible for the European and Asian digital businesses for Thomson Multimedia as Vice President.

Previously, he was responsible for Thomson's world-wide digital product development overseeing the development for DSS (DirecTV) decoders, DVB decoders, DVD players and internet products. In 1994 he left Thomson Multimedia to rejoin in 1996, between 1994 and 1996 he was the Technical Director of Irdeto, during which time, Irdeto was transformed from a relatively small internal engineering company into a leading digital conditional access provider.
